AIC Requests Discussion on Identification of B Visa Holders

AIC Submits Formal Request to the Foreign Workers Committee for Additional Discussion on Identification Numbers for Foreign Citizens

For the past two years, the Israeli Association for International Couples (AIC) has actively advocated for a fair and practical solution regarding identification numbers for foreign partners of Israeli who are not yet eligible for an Israeli ID. During this time, AIC has participated in several parliamentary discussions on the topic, including in the Public Inquiries Committee, the Interior Committee, and the Foreign Workers Committee, urging the authorities to find a solution. This issue remains critical for many international couples, affecting their daily lives and accessibility to services.

Last Tuesday, AIC submitted a formal request to the Foreign Workers Committee, urging them to schedule an additional discussion on the matter. This request followed the latest discussion on this topic, which took place on January 28th. In our letter, we emphasized that foreign partners of Israelis on a B1 visa face unique challenges. Unlike other foreigners, they are an integral part of an Israeli household, with Israeli partners and children who all hold Israeli ID numbers. This distinction creates significant bureaucratic and practical difficulties that must be addressed.

AIC remains in contact with various Members of Knesset who recognize the significance of this issue, as well as fellow non-profit organizations working towards the same goal. Collaboration and continued dialogue with these key stakeholders are essential to advancing the rights of foreign citizens and their families in Israel.

We will continue to provide updates on this matter as new developments arise. To stay informed, subscribe to the AIC newsletter!
