The fight against MK Simcha Rothman’s proposed Basic Law: Entry, Immigration, and Status has reached a critical turning point and your voice is urgently needed.
The true purpose of this law is clear: to drastically limit immigration to Israel. Rothman and his ideological allies view immigration – and international families – as a direct threat to their vision of an exclusively Jewish Israel. As the next elections approach and their political grip weakens, they’re racing against the clock to leave a permanent, irreversible mark on Israeli policy.
But we’re not powerless. Together we can stop this bill before it becomes permanent. Here’s how you can take action right now to defend the right to love, to live, and to build a family in dignity.
Raise Your Voice
Contact Members of the Knesset (MKs)
Israeli parliament members don’t know enough about this law, and especially how it affects Israelis. They need to hear how this law affects real people. Share your personal story and explain how the proposed changes would disrupt you and your family’s lives.
Feel free to send a Whatsapp message or an email directly to the MK. Don’t be intimidated, they receive messages from concerned citizens regularly and it is their job. This is your chance to make a real difference! Our recommendation:
- Write the message in Hebrew
- Share your personal story and how Rothman’s Immigration law may affect you (You can use some of the key points listed at the end of this article, but your personal “touch” is even more important).
- Don’t mention AIC. Frame it as a personal message from someone potentially affected, and explain how. AIC is working through other parliamentary channels.
- Focus on opposition parliament members and especially members of the Constitution Committee: קארין אלהרר, איתן גינזבורג, עופר כסיף, יוליה מלינובסקי, יואב סגלוביץ, מנסור עבאס, גלעד קריב
- When contacting opposition members, they will likely already oppose the law. However, it’s important to emphasize that passive opposition isn’t enough – they must actively participate in the committee discussions, speak out against the proposal, and highlight the specific harm it would cause to international couples in Israel.

Contact Your Local Embassy in Israel
Embassies are vital resources for citizens living abroad. Occasionally, embassies choose to get involved in Israeli legislative matters – especially when a proposed law or policy may significantly impact their citizens. For example, at the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, the Ukrainian embassy took significant steps against Israel’s attempt to block Ukrainian nationals from entering the country.
Reach out to your embassy by phone or email. Explain how the proposed law could affect your visa status, family life, or human rights. While there’s no guarantee of action, embassies often monitor such developments and may raise the issue with Israeli authorities if enough people speak up.
Mobilize Public Awareness
Write to Political Influencers on Social Media
Israel has many liberal activists with large followings on Facebook and other platforms. They often speak out on issues of democracy and human rights but may not yet know how this legislation harms Israelis with international families. Reach out to people or pages like Uri Misgav, Tomer Persico, John Brown, Idan Eretz, Ben Caspit, מחזקים, Netanel Azulay, Naor Narkis, Nava Rozolyo, שקוף, and more!
Also, write to Assi Azar who is an international couple himself!
It’s as easy as sending a message to your friend. If you’re too lazy to write, you can just share with them AIC’s posts!
Speak to Friends and Family
Israel is a small country! Plus, it’s important to share it with those rooting for us. Have conversations with relatives, neighbors, and coworkers. If you’re part of any groups of international couples, share your story there too. These groups are powerful multipliers. If they want more information, please guide them to this article: Red Alert: Rothman’s Immigration Overhaul Advances in Knesset
Share on Social Media
AIC has shared strong-worded posts, in Hebrew, about the harm in Rothman’s bill. Raising visibility online helps pressure decision-makers and inform the public. You can also share your own photo and message if you’re comfortable – personal stories have a big impact.
Share AIC’s posts: Facebook, Instagram
Preferably, add your own experience and personal story when you share this content!
Write to the Media
If you have contacts in the press or run a blog, pitch an op-ed, share your story, or recommend coverage of the bill. And please introduce them to us – your personal introduction will go a long way.

🧭 Key Messages to Share
Whether you’re talking to friends, posting on social media, or speaking to a journalist, we want to help you convey the most important messages. Clear, consistent messaging helps cut through confusion and counters the government’s misleading narrative.
- This bill targets Israeli families. The government frames it as a border-control measure, but in reality, it threatens tens of thousands of Israeli citizens in relationships with foreign partners.
- The law would separate families and trap couples in legal limbo. Annual quotas, harsh bans, and endless temporary visas would make it nearly impossible for international couples to build stable lives in Israel.
- It could strip basic rights – including healthcare, work status, and legal parenthood – from people already living here. Even those already begun building their lives here could suddenly find themselves without legal protection.
- It’s an anti-democratic power grab that weakens constitutional protections. By elevating this law above other Basic Laws, the government is undermining the rights of all Israelis – not just migrants.
